Case Study: Content Coaching for a Copywriter

Want to know the best part about being a content coach for personal brands and service-based businesses? It’s the cool people I get to work with.

Just look at Jo, the founder of J. Flynn Copywriting. On the surface, she writes SEO website copy and blogs for wedding vendors. But on a deeper level, she helps wedding vendors find their voice, show up authentically, and connect with people they genuinely want to work with.

My job has been helping her peel back the surface so potential clients can actually see the depth of what she offers and connect with the heart behind it.

The Background

I’ve been working with Jo for well over a year. We first connected through Instagram, and she wrote my website copy while I created monthly content calendars for her! Her biggest struggle was showing up consistently and authentically on social media. As someone in marketing, she was constantly supporting her clients, and had very little time and energy leftover to invest in her own marketing. (As a fellow marketing girlie, I felt that on a spiritual level).

The content calendars helped alleviate the stress she felt around showing up online. But as she began to refine her messaging and think about what she really wanted to be known for, she wanted more intentional support. So she switched to 1:1 content coaching.

The Plan

Jo wanted her social media presence to feel more like a home base. She wanted it to reflect not just what she does, but who she is as a person. In our first month of coaching, we dug deep into her unique POV. We actually articulated all the things that make her stand out so we could start building a community around it.

In the following months, we talked about how to share more of her opinions, establish herself as an authority in her industry, and bring more of her personality into her marketing.

And honestly? It’s been fun.

Content coaching isn’t just about telling you what to post. It’s about finding the parts that excite you and building on them. For Jo, this meant writing stronger hooks, creating yap-to-cam videos, and repurposing content to get more mileage out of the content she already has.

The work we’re doing isn’t limited to social media, either. We’re looking at how all of her marketing channels can support each other. She’s actively building her email list, so we’re making Instagram content that promotes it. We’re turning blogs into social posts and emails, creating more opportunities for people to discover and connect with her across platforms.

The Results

One of my favorite parts about coaching is the way I get to watch an idea grow. When we first started coaching, Jo was playing around with her unique POV, trying to figure out what she really wanted her business to be known for. Through our monthly coaching calls and Discord support, I’ve gotten to watch her confidence grow. Now, I freaking love seeing her content pop up on my feed because it’s powerful, intentional, and grounded in who she is! (And yes, I follow all of my clients and am cheering them on the whole time!)

But beyond the confidence Jo has been building, her platform has shifted. It’s not just about posting and being done for the day. Her posts aren’t just about “getting clients,” either. She’s building a real community online, and it’s spilling into her offline world in the best way.

She attends frequent networking events and is recognized for her content. People see her in real life and tell her how much they love her social media presence. They use words like cozy, welcoming, and genuine. People are connecting not just with what she does, but with the way she does it. Her intentional, anti-hustle messaging is building the community and connection she has been craving.

Her goal wasn’t just to book more clients, but to work with more aligned clients. By sharing content that reflects her personality and values, she’s weeding out wrong-fit clients and attracting people she really wants to work with.

Content Coaching for Personal Brands and Service Based Businesses

Content coaching is just as much about building your confidence as it is about getting more leads. It’s equal parts strategy and personal development.

If you’re not interested in learning and growing into the business owner you know you can be, coaching might not be a good fit, and that’s okay! But if you’re tired of watering down your content and fitting into boxes you’ve outgrown, 1:1 content coaching is exactly what you need.

Take it from Jo!

“It was a bit of a leap for me to go from content calendars to 1 on 1 coaching, but I’m so glad I did. Social media is actually starting to feel social again. I’m having real conversations in the DMs, connecting with like-minded people, and honestly, I feel like a badass. Having Ariel’s expertise has made it so much easier for me to show up, because she helps me with the technical “here’s how to make a carousel not look ugly” parts so I can just enjoy creating content. I’m sharing stuff I care about and getting to work with people who care about those things, too.”
